I've been asked why I keep Mr. African since it would surely be a lot easier to keep the geese pure by only keeping Pilgrims. The reason is that he is an absolutely wonderful, and fierce, protector of the goslings. He will adopt orphans and protect them fiercely - he is a wonderful father.
Tonight I attempt to make my first ever chevre and feta cheese using our Gracie's wonderful milk. Wish me luck!
When I looked out the backdoor this morning, I thought there had been a poultry massacre. Feathers everywhere! Then, on closer inspection, and after counting heads several times, I realized the Pilgrims are going through their yearly molt after breeding season. Feathers, feathers EVERYWHERE!
Gracie, Freckles and little CatieBug arrived back on Farm on May 13th - it feels like home again now that the Ladies are back :) Yes, I do have a small quantity of milk available for purchase on the Farm.
