Such a smart boy! He's is available to a working or performance home since he is a busy boy.
He
This should give some of you the giggles. Yesterday I had lunch with Mary and her family which was wonderful. Around 4pm, I headed home and what did I find when I pulled into the driveway? Leifurson (Icelandic Ram) in the driveway. He's a good boy so when I opened the gate he trotted inside. Slight problem. He's now in the twin brothers (Frodi and Gudleif) breeding group and he starts bashing heads and checking out the ewes. Ewes that don't belong to him (according to ME). So I run around like a crazy person, grab a little grain and get him into the backyard so I can get him into the front yard, where his breeding group is. In order to get him in the backyard, I have to grab the ewe he is attempting to romance. Then I notice she doesn't look as happy, check her eyes and yup, Houston we have a problem, she needs to be wormed NOW. I rush indoors, get the wormer drawn up and head outside, only to find her down on her side and Leifurson pawing at her and prodding her with his head. So she is fertile, only he's knocked her down. She is a yearling, but still - that is just NOT acceptable. So I get her up and push-pull-drag her to the front yard so I can get Leifurson in the correct location. Knowing Leifurson, I had already run an interior electric fence in the front yard - only I hadn't set up the energizer yet since I had to replace the power cord which is run from the kitchen, then out through the kitchen window. Sounds simple right? Riiiiiiiiiiiiigggggghhhhhhhht. The kitchen window is stuck and it really needs to be replaced. So I have to resort to prising it open using a fork and a bread knife - while leaning over the sink and a cluttered counter-top. Much huffing and puffing and cussing later, I manage to pop it open enough to feed the replacement power cord through. Only I have to untangle it first. More huffing and puffing and cussing and foot stamping ensues (I tire easily since my thyroid is not balanced - long story, suffice it to say that I'm dripping in sweat and my arms are burning by the time I get that little job taken care of). In the meantime, I know that Leifurson probably has knocked Miss Priss over and so I REALLY need to work faster and get her the heck out of there. I hurriedly plug the extension cord in (rated for outside use), rush outside with a light and pliers and head into the front yard. I have to reset the section of electrified fence that got knocked off, shore up the sagging sections and then run wire from the energizer to the net fencing. Before I do that, I have to roll poor Miss Priss BEHIND the electric fence and shove her into the goat's pen to keep Leifurson away from her. He paces the goat pen (which is fine by me since it keeps him out of my hair) while I get the netting fixed up, then run around to the other side of the yard to get into the back yard and trot around to the front yard so I can work on the energizer. I grab the cord trailing out the kitchen window, zip around the porch, untangling the cord as I go, get to the energizer and realize that I need wire strippers which I don't have, so I zip back inside, grab a knife and flashlight and back out again. I run part of the wire from the energizer to the t-posts I can access, hook up the ground wire and then back into the front yard again to run the rest of the wire to the fencing. Check. Run back around again and zip around to the front of the house, say a prayer and plug the energizer in. NADA. Grumbling and mumbling and cussing ensure - back into the kitchen, find another outlet, plug it in, mutter a prayer, run back outside and thankfully, see the light blinking on the energizer so I have power. Take a moment to catch my breath, dash back inside to find the fence tester cause now I have to test its live. I hear an anguished yelp. Alarmed, I sprint outside to find Sasha, the livestock guardian, huddling by the gate to the front yard - she hit the fencing and yup, it's live. Still, better to not take chances so I check each section of fence while reassuring Sasha that she did nothing wrong and that she is a good girl. Current is running decently at 5.9 - not at its usual 9+ - still I'll take it and hook up another grounding rod on Saturday to boost the output. Leifurson gives me a very reproachful look and backs up several foot from the interior fence. I trot out the front yard and collapse on the porch step to catch my breath. Did I mention that in the middle of all this chaos I have 2 puppies and Kweeba and Quan trying to be helpful? Not to mention that I keep forgetting to close the kitchen door so Buglet and Pansy, LaMancha does, keep wandering in the house? By now, there are no 2-ways about it, I'm desperate for a sit-down and to catch my breath, so I check that Miss Priss is content to hang out with the goats (which she is) so I decide to leave her there until morning. So, how was your thanksgiving? LOL |
