I am suffering from a tendency to loose track of time, of late. So since I was having trouble sleeping, I got up and went to count sheep, literally.
I sat on the porch step looking down at the flock drowsing and chewing the cud. Directly in front of me was Mia, long flowing grey fleece, serene and wondering what her crazy shepherd was up to now.
Snoot standing behind me with his head cuddled against my shoulder, Sasha on my right, alert yet relaxed, on guard since Mr. Smokey had bedded the flock down for the night.
The barn cats slipped like black shadows flowing across the ground to visit and twine around my legs and against the face and bodies of the sheep. Leifurson, ever so regal, regarding the cats with gentle curiosity.
It took about 30 minutes for the calm eminating from the flock to quieten me, then I toddled off to bed and untroubled sleep.
