Wendy gave birth to a lovely black ewe lamb during the early afternoon today. Pics to follow!
Olive gave birth to Ophelia yesterday, a lovely spotted black and white ewe lamb. Unfortunately, she has rejected the ewe lamb so we are spending time holding Olive so her baby can nurse, and bottle feeding her with milk from Guinivere, who lost her baby earlier this week. At night, Ophelia sleeps cuddled up to Kweeba, our icelandic sheepdog. Yet another reason to adore this wonderful dogs!
Guinivere gave birth to a lovely little black ewe lamb late yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately, she got chilled, and even though we tried our best, we lost her.
So today I spend mulling over what we had done and what we could have done differently. This will be the 2nd lamb of the season and lost. Hopefully 3rd time is the charm. A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but by his inaction, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury. John Stuart Mill Time to give everyone their CD/T shots. So today we took care of all the goats and kids.
I prefer to use Vision CD/T w/SPUR for my sheep. I also milked Gracie to even out her udder. We lost our Gallant Lady, Nanna, last night.
Approximately 2 weeks ago, she suddenly lost the ability to walk so we bedded her down in the barn and provided supportive care. She ate with gusto and enjoyed our visits until last night when she let us know her clock was winding down. She has been such a big part of our flock in the time she has been with us and I want to thank Laurie Ball-Gisch for giving us the opportunity to have her in our flock. She leaves us a legacy in the form of her daughter, and grand-daughter. Our rams are showing their mettle this year by bashing fence posts and bending cattle panels. The joys of breeding season are upon us again.
Another 6 weeks and we get to smoosh them all together again - fun. Nieve went off for her 3-month rendezvous with a bull on November 20th. So, hopefully we'll have a calf on the ground between August and October 2011.
